Developing a Diversity & Inclusion Plan For Your Workplace

According to a recent study, diversity & inclusion is the #1 HR practice with the highest impact on business performance.  Recruitment, retention, employee engagement, employee performance, employee productivity and organizational culture all impact a company’s bottom line and ROI. They also have a direct link to a company’s diversity and inclusion efforts.

Yet, with such a large impact, only about 12% of companies are accomplishing recognizable diversity & inclusion achievements.  Why?

Part of the answer is the connection between turnover, low productivity and conflict to a lack of diversity and inclusion has still not been largely realized.  Another part of the answer is that many organizations simply do not know where to begin.

Realizing how greatly diversity and inclusion impact business performance, how developed is your organization’s plan?

In this session, participants will be introduced to the benefits and stages of creating and implementing a comprehensive plan of diversity and inclusion for their workplace.

Toni Bowie is the managing director of MaxLife, LLC, a coaching and training organization skilled at leading difficult, sometimes uncomfortable, yet highly critical conversations for the workplace.  For over 20 years she has trained, counseled and coached organizations in the areas of diversity & inclusion, sexual harassment prevention, domestic violence in the workplace, and organization, employee & leadership development.

Toni holds the Diversity Executive Certification and works with small to larger complex organizations within the government and private sectors and across all industries.  Her work in helping organizations to develop diversity and inclusion plans began when she assisted colleges in recruiting diverse student and faculty populations and building inclusive cultures to ensure their retention.  This Spring she is completing a project with an organization of 3,000 employees. The project included building cultural competence, educating on conscious and unconscious biases, understanding how biases impacted the workplace, removing barriers to inclusion and developing tools and skillsets to ensure sustainable results.

Always active in community initiatives, Toni recently completed a term serving on the Frederick County Society of Human Resource Management (FCSHRM) Board of Directors as chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and serving on the Veteran’s Initiative Committee.  She continues to serve as a member of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development’s Initiative Advisory Committee for minority businesses and she is a member of both the Washington County and Frederick County Chambers of Commerce.

Toni holds a B.A in communications from Mississippi State University and an M.A. in psychology from Hood College.  She is certified in executive coaching and organizational development. She and husband Terry are parents to two daughters and grandparents to Reagan.  Toni’s "military experience” includes being the daughter, spouse and mother of active duty personnel.
